Open Homes for a Sustainable Future Print E-mail

Open Homes Cover12-13th Sept

This is your opportunity to visit homes around Stroud, see renewable energy in action, discuss energy efficiency and get advice on eco-renovations. There's a great range of micro renewable technologies, eco-renovation and new build... everything from solar water heating to the amazing Tranquility House, claimed in some reports to be the most energy efficient house in the world.

This is a date for people's diaries. The idea of opening people's eco-homes to the public was hugely popular when it started a couple of years ago in Oxfordshire. With all the interest in green issues locally and rising fuel prices I think we will see many people wanting to visit these homes to see if they can apply the energy efficiency and renewable energy measures to their own houses.
On the Saturday we have an exhibition of the measures that people can take, plus grant information, at the opening of what hopes to be the country's first carbon neutral village hall in Randwick. Plus over the weekend we have over ten homes open to the public to show Solar Thermal, Wood Pellet boilers, rainwater harvesting, solid wall insulation and much more. There will also be a chance to see Stroud's first residential wind turbine, Springhill Co-housing's largest PV generation in the country on private housing and there will be tours of Tranquility House that has been dubbed by the Building Contracts Journal as ‘the most energy efficient house in the world'.
There are also two guided walks of the homes which are part of the Stroud's Walking Festival and a cycle route is also being developed. We have a website with the details plus the District Council has supported us in helping fund a leaflet that gives info on grants and the open homes.

Exhibition at Randwick Village Hall on Sat 13th Sept from 11am to 4pm (teas available) - Severn Wye Energy Agency, The Greenshop, Transition Stroud...
