Textiles Working Group Print E-mail

1w.jpgOur focus is on skill sharing – from basic crafts like needlework and knitting to fabric making, dyeing and printing. We want to show others that it can be fun to make your own clothes, update your old ones or exchange with others through charity shops, freecycle or clothes swap parties.

If anyone has seen the Transition Banner, made by The Textile Group 2 years ago, could you please let Clare know where and when it was last seen as it needs to be traced. It is made of wool applique, with Transition Stroud across it. There is a photo of it on the website home page.   Contact Textile group co-ordinator Clare Sheridan This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it   01453 827286

Four or us met at Su Bittlestone's house on Tuesday 29th September.  WE had a fun evening, clothes swapping, mending, admiring Sue's atmospheric paintings and lovely garden.  Thanks to Su for the wonderful hospitality - the homemade flapjacks were much appreciated.

Next Meeting will be Thursday 14th January 2010 at 7.30pm at Kirstie's

New Members are welcome, call Clare Sheridan: 01453 827286

Carshare if you can to save resources.

Bring any project you are working on, clothes swap or just bring yourself and any ideas for events that you are pondering.

See you there.

Following meeting will be on Tuesday 16th March at Fiona's if she has settled into her new home.

In the long term we would like to get hemp growing in the area and to once again see fabric being produced locally using hemp and local wool.

We have already held a successful fashion show where local producers were able to show off their garments and members of our group demonstrated how old clothes could be given a new look with a little imagination and some basic needlework skills.

Plans for this year include a one day event where textile crafts will be demonstrated and people given a chance to ‘have a go'. Alongside this there will be an exhibition and sale of locally produced clothing and other textiles.

We intend to make costumes and props for a Transition Stroud entry in the Carnival this year and also flags and banners for other promotional purposes.
